BRIEF HISTORY OF SAMSCYON ACADEMY
SAMSCYON is the acronym of St. Augustine Major Seminary Catholic Youth Organization of Nigeria. It is an academy and a subsidiary of the Catholic Youth Movement of the worshiping community of St. Augustine Major Seminary. It was established in the year 2015 in Jos, Plateau State, by the first CYON president Chika Uguoke, who appointed Christopher Okaforcha as the assistant secretary of the organization as its chief coach. He made Lucky Odejeghwro the assistant coach and Comos Okwara the treasurer of the organization.
Initially, membership of the organization was restricted only to the male and female chaplaincy members who were interested in keeping fitness. As time progressed members of other parishes and denominations began to develop keen interest in joining the team. That prompting the team to consider non-Catholic’s who are good citizens of Nigeria.
Subsequently, due to the tremendous progress recorded by within the team, it felt the need to employ the services of experienced individuals to help in its football Management so as to produce better results. In due course, the organization in 2017 appointed Tochukwu Ojimba as its team manager and Jacob Akanazu as the assistant.
Fortunately, the team recorded immense progress advancing to the status of an academy that has an eye on developing its own players to become professional footballers. The academy truly walks the walk since it exposes its players to various football competitions, trials and standard training sessions.
In 2018, it became legally registered with the Plateau Football Association in other to improve the level of opportunities available to its players and to skyrocket their visible from local to national and international levels.
